Brief History

On August Seventh, Nineteen Hundred and Seventy Four, under the laws of the state of West Virginia, the Agreement of Incorporation was signed.  The Blue Ridge Mountain Volunteer Fire Company originally started with a small building located on Keyes Ferry Road.  Several years later, we built a larger station on the same site.  Although we have not changed locations, our station is now located at 181 Keyes Gap Road.  At the main station, we house a Fire Engine (1989 E-One Spartan Pumper - 1500 GPM pump rated for 1250 GPM, 750 gallon booster tank, seating for 8 personnel), Water Tanker (1995 4Guys Elliptical Tanker - 500 GPM pump, 1500 gallon tank, rear dump, 2100 gallon fold a tank), Brush Truck (1984 Chevrolet 1 1/4 Ton Military Truck - 200 gallon booster tank, trash pump, skid unit, pump and roll capability, 4x4), Rescue Boat(20 foot V Bottom, 25 horsepower jet motor, extra lighting on board, life jackets and helmets for 6 personnel), and an Ambulance (1989 Ford 350 Advanced Life Support Unit).  On the first Wednesday of every month at 7:00 PM, we hold our general membership meeting at the main station.  As the community grew, so did the need to provide Fire and EMS coverage for the community.  Because of this growth, we built a sub station at the intersection of Route 9 & 100 Mission Road.  At the sub station, we house a Fire Engine (2001 KME Pumper - 1250 GPM Pump, 1000 gallon booster tank, seating for 6 personnel), and an Ambulance (1997 Ford 350 Advanced Life Support Unit).  The sub station has an EMT on station from 6:00 AM until 4:00 PM five days a week to provide quick response for 911 medical calls: phone # (304) 728-8006. All of our members are volunteers who live in our community, most of whom work regular jobs and have families like you and I.  These hard working individuals give of their time for the betterment of our community and ask nothing in return, secure in knowing that they and their fellow volunteers are there to protect their families and their community.  Our primarily coverage is every thing east of the Shenandoah River to the West Virginia/Virginia state line, north to the intersection of Chestnut Hill Road and Route 340 and south down Mission Road to include Riverside housing area.  We also provide Fire and EMS service, when called upon, to all of Jefferson County, covering approximately 225 square miles.  Over 90 percent of our operating expenses come from donations and fund raising events in our community.  We of the Blue Ridge Mountain Volunteer Fire Company (BRMVFC) thank you for your support.
